PLEASE VOTE ON NOVEMBER 2nd

The Sludge Report has stated that it does not endorse candidates.  It is extremely important to our mission, however, that we make every effort to obtain and publish candidate positions on the septic issue.  After all, they hold the keys to our success or failure.  Over the past two months, we have sent numerous e-mails to all candidates for State Executive Office positions and Federal Congressional office seekers.  The following candidates have declared either by e-mail or in public forums their support for protecting the property rights and economic well-being of septic system owners accross the state.  We cannot possibly cover all the districts and candidates.  We recommend, if you have not voted already, please contact your local representatives and senators, county and city candidates for their position on this important issue.

Marco Rubio, U.S. Senate Candidate

Comments delivered in a speech in Apopka FL acknowledged the severe and unwarranted enconomic impact the EPA's Numeric Nutrient Criteria would have on citizens and businesses in our state and has promised to fight the issue in the Senate.

Charlie Crist, U.S. Senate Candidate

Approves of the DOH implementation of inspection rules as currently stated in SB550.  See the previous Sludge Report for more information.

Kendrick Meek, U.S. Senate Candidate

No response to e-mail requests.

Rick Scott, Candidate for Governor

Campaign aide sent the following statement to a Sludge Report reader: "He asked that I get back to you regarding the septic tank legislation passed this year that he would have opposed as Governor.  As a state, we need to work to improve our water quality, but in the worst recession in recent times, it is unfathomable to create a new mandate that places an additional financial burden on certain Florida citizens, many of whom live in our rural communities.  The newly mandated septic inspections are more regulation and more government when we need to focus on reducing government and the financial burdens that it places on citizens.  Additionally, Jennifer Carroll opposed this legislation." -- Pam Pfeifer, Policy

Alex Sink, Candidate for Governor

No response to e-mail requests.

Pam Bondi, Candidate for Attorney General

Stated she will defend the State of Florida against the EPA mandates, and as needed, review legality of bills and rules.

Dan Gelber, Candidate for Attorney General
